DEPARTMENT OF WYOMING PROGRAMS
The Department of Wyoming supports many programs for veterans and youth in our community. These programs are supported by Wyoming Posts, Districts, and The Department of Wyoming. The following is a partial list of programs which we support:

Contributions of the Department of Wyoming:

  • American Legion Riders: One of the fastest-growing and most highly visible of the many programs offered by The American Legion, The American Legion Riders are a very diverse group, and so are the programs that they support. The Department of Wyoming currently has two rider chapters,  that support Americanism and Children and Youth programs in virtually every part of the state.
  • Wyoming Legion Baseball:  Baseball is an mature Legion program made up of 40 teams from across the state. Baseball Teams  participate in “AA”, “A” or “B” divisions based on their age group for good sportsmanship and team play to about 500 WY boys.

  • Boys State: Annually volunteers from around the state come together to train our young men in the ideals and objectives of American Government. The Wonderful Wyoming Boys State program hosts over 100 high school juniors who participated in a one week course to learn about our system of government.

  • High School Rodeo: About 250 teenagers from around the state participate in Wyoming High School Rodeo. Legion donations to the program varies from $500.00 to $2000.00, which is used for scholarships.

  • Oratorical Contest: The Department Oratorical Contest is for students from grade 9 to 12 who vie for scholarships. Each contestant prepares an 8-10 minute speech on a selected segment of the US Constitution.

  • Sons of the American Legion:  S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparents served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in The American Legion.

  • Jr. Shooting: Junior Shooting Sports consists of 8 teams who participate in shooting contests. These young people learn the skill of sharp shooting and the respect for handle a rifle.
